In the late ’70s and early ’80s, if you were one of Cardiff’s Goths, Punks, Rockabillies, Psychobillies or New Romantics, Nero’s was the place to go. Among its regulars were many from Cardiff’s queer community.

Nero’s was a nightclub and live music venue that attracted an “alternative” crowd of Goths, Punks and New Romantics, as well as “fashionistas… from all over the city and across South Wales”. Bands such as Depeche Mode, Soft Cell and Pride (later known as Sade) played some of their earliest gigs there. The venue carried on as a nightclub under the names Zeus and, most recently, Pryzm.
