In the late 1990s and 2000s, the Canadian was managed by David and Richard, previously of the Golden Cross, and it became a gay-friendly local in the heart of Adamsdown!
“More a gay friendly ‘local’. Mixed crowd including straight locals who became very protective of us lesbians. I remember a couple of straight guys hassling us one night and a couple of locals threw them out. We were their lesbians! Used to have drag on Saturday nights and sometimes Sundays.”
“I went to the Canadian a few times when Dave and Richard, former Golden landlords, ran it. They had the odd drag queen and always good music on. Was a bit of a warm up pub before hitting town.”
